I took delivery of a new 1978 Shadow II age 24 for London delivery tax free to take home to Australia after 15 months savings 92% import and sales tax. . Youth hostelled across Europe in it for 5 months. The SSII was quite a fun drive with rack and pinion steering, Citroen derived suspension and good handling. Huge fun punting it along intermediate roads in UK and Europe... It did suffer from quite a few bugs, typical of British cars from the late 70's... Including a "Failure to Proceed" 6 weeks old near Stonehenge...

That’s utterly gorgeous! Must admit, I’d have a Bentley over an RR any day. Ironically one of my favourite Corgi models was an RR Corniche!

I had a 2.0T version one of these. Wonderful car. However when it came to selling it I took a massive hit. Wasn't really considered sexy enough for most customers despite having a load of options. A friend had an Audi A4 with the same engine, but a lot lower spec. He had to fight buyers off with a shitty stick.

This is what Rolls Royce and Bentley , as made in Crewe, were about. Sheer class.

Jaguar is irrelevant now. I miss these old ones. Callums design language is why Jag is dying. No character. The XE and XF look Japanese. The SUVs are like everyone else. I was a kid in the 80s and every movie I saw was successful people had jags in them.

Beautiful exterior design, great restoration. Not much of a driver's car though, despite the 'personal coupe' styling. Not only because of the (barely) adequate HP, but more because of the poor handling.

Noticed the dials have the Bentley logo not RR as is usual - was that part of the restoration. RR did try to come up with their own self-levelling suspension, I understand they spent a small fortune but could not better that from Citroen so licensed the technology.

Parked between an X5 and a Q7 they do look small. That's progress.

Father had one when I was a kid. A year ago I came up to one in my Range Rover and thought "Not as big as I remember." Still looked great though! I wish I could afford to keep one.

I remember as a little lad in the 1970s in Liverpool standing awestruck by a Triumph Spitfire Mk IV parked in our road. A young woman came out of a nearby house to get into it, saw me looking open mouthed at it, and asked my if I'd like a ride (I was a little cutie back then), after carefully taking into consideration what mum & dad had warned me about "getting into cars with strangers", I decided to completely ignore the advice and was in the passenger seat before you could say "0-60 in 13 seconds". She blasted round the nearby roads for a few minutes and dropped me back off at our front door. Needless to say I was spotted getting out of the strange car by mum and as a consequence was unable to sit down properly for 2 days afterwards. Happy memories.

The king of sleepers...

Good points at 7:05 about the demise of the big Fords but Ford wasn't the only car company thus affected; all the non-premium makes selling cars in Europe had the same problem. Almost nobody wanted them when they could have an Audi, BMW, Jaguar etc. instead. The excellent Opel Vauxhall / Senator went as well, as did the Renault Safrane, the Citroen XM and the big Fiats and Lancias amongst others.

Been looking for years , just bought one in Inca yellow,, needs abit of work but love it ❤

I always liked the styling of the Scorpio, though I accept I'm in a minority in that.

A few pointers here... You totally forgot the mk5 Zetec S, hot hatch? Nah, fun warm hatch? Yep The Mk7 also had the s1600 and metal edition, both producing 130bhp and 0-60 in around 8 seconds. Which again isn't the fastest thing ever. But they are fun to drive. The Mk6 Fiesta ST was also 150bhp, not 140. Many of them leaving with more than 150bhp. The MK3 RS Turbo will always be the much cooler car here, the mk8 didn't have the soul or character of a Fiesta. I'm sure made it to make people not want to buy a Fiesta, so they could push Pumas at people.

I prefer the shadow as doors are shorter and thus more practical to park. Also the finishings of the front windows on the inner side in the corniche are ugly because of the difference on 1 cm in level on both sides of the glass.

Is that true about the suspension? I always thought these early corniches were Pre-Citroen and ran on coils. And by always thought I of course meant googled a hunch.

I like the Camargue. Never did when they came out, but now they sort of still look futuristic. I saw one that had been updated with 18" wheels, Turbo R engine etc and it really looked good. However, if I was to buy one, I'd probably want a Turbo RT (and then buy a Turbo R because of the price difference).
